Program

The airport tour starts with a trip round the apron area after the security checks. Visitors can enjoy the varied procedures used to prepare a passenger aircraft for take-off during this time. We then pay a short visit to the airport fire brigade. Passing by the fuel depot and the noise protection hangar for testing jet engines, the tour continues to the southern area of the airport. During the trip through the DHL site, guests obtain information about handling cargo aircraft and goods – and the various items of equipment and the infrastructure.
Once the controllers from the German Air Traffic Control Service have provided clearance, the bus takes you on a trip along one of the two runways at speed. The tours can be organised in line with your wishes and become an unforgettable experience, for example, with a demonstration of the fire simulator.

Awards

Protecting the environment is of central importance to Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH. The airport is actively involved in nature conservation and coordinates closely with the relevant authorities. Since 2009, the air quality has been checked by biomonitoring with bee colonies, which has already resulted in 10 bee colonies being established in the surrounding area. A new forest is also being created between Leipzig/Halle Airport and Schkeuditz, for which the reforestation of a 28-hectare area with around 200,000 native trees began in 2015.
